Icon No.38- The International Market Place

The International Market Place located in the heart of Waikiki on Kalakaua Avenue extending to Kuhio Avenue.has been a tourist attraction for many years. Its history as a market place began January 1955 when entrepreneur Don "Don the Beachcomber" Beach announced that a new "Waikiki village" was to be created. The new village was to be called "The International Market Place." Since then it has served locals and tourist with a mix of ethnic arts, crafts, entertainment and foods, it’s a great place to stroll through, do some stall shopping, grab a bite to eat and catch some island music.

Icon No.37- Haleiwa Road Sign

A true icon of the North Shore on Oahu, Hawaii! This famous road sign is one of three signs, this one features a 3-D wave riding female surfer in red board shorts that beckons travelers into Haleiwa. Over the years the signs have been stolen, lost, retrieved, vandalized and recently repaired. Thousands of tourists have taken their photos next to this colorful marker, so next time you’re visiting Oahu be sure to grab a photo next to the wave riding wahine.

Icon No.36- Duke Kahanamoku

The statue of Duke Paoa Kahanamoku is located on Waikiki Beach where many honor him by placing leis on his statue. The Duke a full-blooded Hawaiian lived from 1890-1968 and was born and raised in Waikiki on Oahu Hawaii, he represented the Hawaiian culture to millions of people. He was an Olympic champion winning a number of metals in four Olympics between 1912 and 1922. He is known as the Father of Surfing having introduced the sport to the Eastern seaboard and he is recognized as the "Hawaiian Ambassador of Aloha".

Icon No.35- Makua Cave

The mysterious Makua Cave is located on the west side of Oahu, Hawaii. The cave is officially named Kaneana Cave but is commonly called Makua Cave, probably due to its proximity to Makua Valley. It is one hundred feet high and four hundred and fifty feet deep and dark. I took this photo looking out of the cave's entrance to the main road.
